How to Embroider Free-Standing Lace

Free-standing lace (or FSL) embroidery designs are stitched on stabilizer and composed only of thread. FSL projects support themselves after stabilizer is removed.

Here's a quick overview of stitching FSL designs with an embroidery machine.

1. Hoop Stabilizer

Use wash-away or water-soluble stabilizer.

2. Set Up Machine

Match bobbin thread color to top thread.

3. Embroider!

4. Tidy Up

Trim near the outline of the design.

5. Remove Stabilizer

Let dry!
