Tips for sewing velvet fabric with a machine

Sewing velvet can be tricky for beginners!

It slips while stitching, mars easily from mistakes, and makes a fuzzy mess in your sewing space.

However, velvet is beautifully luxurious and worth learning to sew!  Here are a few tips for working with velvet fabric.

1. Don't ever iron the right side of the fabric.

2. Avoid pinning pattern pieces.

3. Use a walking foot, nonstick foot, or roller foot.

4. Stitch seams and darts directionally with the pile when possible.
