Why sewing machines skip stitches

One frustrating sewing problem to troubleshoot is a sewing machine skipping stitches.

Sewing stitches are formed when top and lower threads meet and link together in the middle of the fabric.

When either of those threads fails to connect perfectly, the stitch doesn't form like it should.

Thus, issues with the top OR the bobbin thread can be responsible for skipped stitches. Common reasons for skipped stitches include:

1. There's something wrong with the needle.

2. The machine needs to be cleaned.

3. The machine needs to be rethreaded top and bottom.
