why do sewing machine needles break?

There's nothing worse than sewing along and suddenly, you have a broken needle! You replace it and...it breaks again!

There are two main reasons that sewing machine needles bend and break.

First: The needle hits something that causes it to snap...like the needle plate.

Second: The pressure from the thread on the needle is just too much!

One helpful way to figure out what's happening is to use the hand wheel on the right side of the machine to slowly move the needle while you observe!
